Tips on Marketing Your Events Online
Buy Tickets Button. Put a Buy Tickets button on your web site. Place it so it is easy to find for people who want to attend your event. Put the button in more than one place on your web site (on your home page, on an information page about your event, etc.) You can use the TREAT Buy Ticket button or design your own. TREAT will provide you with the URL link for the Buy Tickets button that will take people directly to your event on the TREAT web site where they can purchase tickets.
Buy Tickets Button Plus. Use the URL link to your event ticketing page on TREAT and put a Buy Tickets button on as many sites as you can — the event venue, Chamber, Convention and Visitor Bureau, sponsors, other organizations, etc.
Media. Be sure all print media has the URL to buy tickets on it. Mention in all interviews and ads where to get tickets online.
Posters and Fliers. Include the URL to buy tickets on all printed materials. Distribute posters and fliers to a wide range of outlets that have visibility — restaurants, coffee shops, salons, libraries, store front windows, etc.
Joint Promotions. Develop joint promotions with local restaurants or other businesses. This could be a discount coupon or a separate selected joint event price.
Special Promotions. Implement special promotions, such as 20% off or 2 for 1 to increase ticket sales if they are slower than projected.
Online Box Offices. Ask local coffee houses with free WiFi to have a sign that says patrons can purchase tickes to your events right there in the coffee shop online. Provide them with a sign that says, "Online box office, get your tickets here — include the URL to buy tickets.
Premium Seating. Add a premium seating section for general admission events or add a reserved seating section at a higher ticket price.
Donations. Nonprofit 501c3 organications may add a donation screen to the ticketing process.
Merchandise. Do you have merchandise, such as CDs, T-shirts, hats, books, etc., that you would like to sell directly, or linked to donation levels?
E-mail/Newsletter Distribution. Create a master e-mail list of your friends, subscribers, etc. E-mail them a couple of times before your event. Include links to buy tickets online; offer them a deal. Ask them to forward the e-mail to others. Use TREAT's e-mail master list to inform a wider audience of your events.
Internet/Social Media. Identify someone who knows Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube well to spread the word about your events. Put a video on YouTube; make it fun. Set up a Facebook and Twitter account and ask everyone to join. If you already have accounts set up, post information about your events. Send announcements to all groups related to your organization.
These tips are just a start. We are more than happy to discuss marketing ideas with you that will increase your revenue and ticket sales.
